This joint Odgers‐Doughty Centre think‐piece explores how the function, its reporting lines and skill‐set is changing. Despite some high‐profile examples from across the Atlantic, of the appointment of Chief Sustainability Officers, the view of our interviewees here in the UK, is that CEO has to be the Chief Sustainability Officer; and that the specialist Corporate Responsibility function is more that of coach, agitator, risk‐identifier, sense‐maker, connector, integrator, translator, and partnership‐builder.
