The Skeptical Environmentalist: Measuring the Real State of the World
Surveying a range of major environmental issues that feature prominently
in headline news around the world, Lomborg makes the case for environmental
optimism and criticises what he calls the "Litany" of environmental
pessimism. Adopting a cost-benefit approach he argues that the statistics
suggest that we are making real improvements both in our personal well-being
and in the environment.
When Corporations Rule the World
The second edition updates the reader on the deepening human crisis of
the global economy. The gap between rich and poor continues to grow,
and people continue to exploit the planet. Korten writes of the new
global citizens’ movement of activism in response to corporate
globalization, and of civil society groups’ efforts to restructure
global economic governance.
Tackling Climate Change on the Ground
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development
(WBCSD) recognizes the critical linkages that exist between
land use and climate change (including agricultural and
forestry activities). This document is an attempt to demonstrate how business is tackling these linkages through a series of best practice case studies from a broad range of its member companies.
Why MBAs Should Not Sign the Harvard Business School Oath
INSEAD professor Theo Vermaelen argues that the MBA oath is a misplaced response to the financial crisis.
Why an MBA Oath?
Business schools have become an easy target as the butt of jokes about
the causes of the current economic crisis, says INSEAD professor
Craig Smith. His response to the question, 'why an MBA oath?' is simply: 'Why not?'
When the Rivers Run Dry: What Happens when Our Water Runs Out
Fred Pearce’s 15-year research into water issues has taken him all over the world. His reportage reveals the personal stories behind failing rivers, barren fields, desertification, floods and water wars. His book gives a picture of the consequences if no remedial action is taken, but also a challenging explanation of the steps we must take to ensure the ‘blue revolution’ the world desperately needs.

world and the ongoing attempts by business, government and civil society to
create a more sustainable future
Value of Social Reporting
The Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship’s Institute for
Responsible Investment examined the experiences and practices of seven
companies in preparing social reports. That examination forms the basis
of this overview report and seven separate case studies.

The report maps the overall attitude toward corporate citizenship, and the influence on
corporate citizenship practices, of key stakeholders in Chile, China, Germany, Italy, Mexico,
Philippines, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It found that globally,
governments ranked high in influence on, as well as mid-to-positive in attitude toward, corporate
citizenship.
Organizations have recently sharpened their focus on sustainability,
primarily in response to consumer and stakeholder expectations.
Consequently, they face an entirely new set of decisions. However, most
lack the information required to make these strategic choices. Based on
what we’ve learned from outperforming organizations and leading CSR
organizations, authors believe businesses should develop new sources of
operational, supply chain and customer information to gain new levels
of insight for meeting strategic sustainability objectives.
The report - "Sustainable Value" - looks in detail at how ESG performance impact business success, how companies explain these linkages to investors, and how the investment community treats this
data. It goes on to argue that growing sustainability pressures are likely to make these linkages more important in the future.
